Abstract

|
To extend the vase life of cut eustoma (Eustotna grattdiflorum), ¢¥Yodel Rose¢¥ and ¢¥Yodel Deep Blue¢¥ flowers were harvested and pulsed with 2 mM silver thiosulfate (STS) for 30 minutes or 0.2% Chrysal AVB for 16 hours and then held in various preservative solutions. Vase life, fresh weight, and flowering percentage were measured. Pretreatments of STS and Chrysal AVB did not prolong the vase life but increased the percent flowering of cut eustoma. 2% sucrose + 150 ppm hydroxyquinoline sulfate (HQS) + 50 ppm AgNO©ý significantly extended vase life 2.8 times as compared to control and improved quality of cut eustoma significantly by increasing percent flowering and fresh weight. 10-50% carbonated water was a good preservative solution for cut eustoma. The proper harvesting stage of cut eustoma was the time when the first flower was open.
